Principal’s Message

Welcome to Citadel High School, home of the Phoenix! Citadel High serves the peninsula of Halifax and its diverse communities with students entering grade 10 from our five feeder Junior Highs. We offer a broad academic program including Options and Opportunities, French Immersion, International Baccalaureate, English as a Second Language, Co-operative Education, Spanish and Gaelic. The dozens of extracurricular and co-curricular programs in the arts, science and technology, as well as our strong athletic program, add to the richness of our curricular programs.

We are proud of the many staff and student-led initiatives in our school. Citadel students have represented our school in local, national and international endeavours. Our students are globally minded and locally connected citizens.

This course selection booklet is designed to assist you in planning your three year career at Citadel and to help you plan your post-secondary path. You are encouraged to seek support from parents, family members, teachers, guidance counselors and other career mentors. I encourage you to make the most of you high school experience. Regular attendance, time on task and completion of all assignments are necessary steps to achieving academic success. As an active learner in your school, you are empowered to make critical choices about you academic career.

It is believed that students who are involved in extra-curricular activities are more engaged in their education. I encourage you to become an active member of the Citadel community and become involved in our wide range of activities. We have a dedicated staff and a very active student council, Fine arts and athletics department. I sincerely hope that you become a proud member of the Phoenix family and choose to make you upcoming year a rewarding one!
